What is Clear the Shelters?
Clear the Shelters is a nationwide adoption campaign organized by NBCUniversal Local to help shelters and rescues connect more animals with new homes.
Winding Branch Ranch is participating by waiving adoption fees for approved adopters from August 15 through August 31.
We currently have pigs, goats, chickens and other farm animals waiting for safe, appropriate homes.
Meet the animals looking for homes
Every animal available for adoption has different needs, personality traits and care requirements.
Some may be a good fit for an established farm or homestead. Others may need experienced adopters, animal companions or specific fencing and shelter. Our goal is to find placements that will be safe, responsible and permanent.
You can view the animals currently available for adoption at:
Availability may change throughout the campaign as applications are reviewed and animals are adopted.
Farm animal adoption is a long-term commitment
Waiving the adoption fee removes one expense, but it does not reduce the responsibility that comes with adopting an animal.
Before applying, please consider:
Secure fencing and appropriate shelter
Local livestock and zoning requirements
Feed, veterinary care and other ongoing expenses
Compatibility with animals already on your property
The animal’s social and behavioral needs
Your ability to provide lifelong care
Pigs require strong fencing, weather protection and space to express natural behaviors. Goats are social animals and generally need compatible companions. Chickens need predator-resistant housing, protection from extreme weather and consistent daily care.
How to apply
Anyone interested in adopting should begin by reviewing the available animals and completing our adoption application.

Complete the adoption application:https://www.windingbranchranch.org/adoption-application
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval or reserve a particular animal. Our team reviews each application to determine whether the property, household and proposed care plan are appropriate for the animal.
Because Winding Branch Ranch is not open to the public for general visitation, meetings with adoptable animals must be arranged in advance.
Not ready to adopt? You can still help
You do not need to adopt an animal to make a difference during Clear the Shelters.
Sharing an animal’s profile may help that animal reach someone with the right home, property and experience. Please share our adoption page with farmers, homesteaders and families who may be prepared to adopt responsibly.
You can also help by sponsoring an animal, volunteering or donating toward feed, shelter and veterinary care.
Help us find the right homes
From August 15 through August 31, adoption fees will be waived for approved adopters.
We especially need qualified homes for pigs, goats and chickens.
A safe new beginning may start with an application, a conversation or one person sharing an animal’s story with the right family.
