Honoring the Life of Rita Jo Kessler

Rita Kessler, age 80, passed away on Thursday, April 23, in Cumming, Georgia. She was born on June 12, 1945, in Fort Eustis, Virginia, and grew up in Smethport, Pennsylvania, where she graduated with the Class of 1963.

In her early career, Rita worked in Washington, D.C., for Congressman Albert Johnson of Pennsylvania. On May 27, 1967, she married the love of her life, Fred Kessler, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned decades. Together they raised two sons, Greg (1970–2017 /deceased) and Tim (born 1971). She was a proud grandmother to Drew, Miles, and Alec, whom she loved dearly.

After dedicating herself to raising her family, Rita began a career with Delta Air Lines, where she worked for 22 years before retiring. She especially loved to travel, embracing the opportunities her work and retirement afforded her to see new places and experience different cultures.

Rita had a deep and abiding faith that shaped every part of her life. She was passionate about sharing the message of Jesus Christ and dedicated herself to ministry within her community. She organized a neighborhood Bible study that began with just a handful of women and grew to include approximately 40 to 45 participants. Through her leadership, many women came to know the Lord, and through their witness, many of their husbands also found faith. Rita emphasized prayer and a personal relationship with God, leaving a lasting spiritual legacy.

She also helped establish and organize a chapter of Women Aglow, a national organization for Christian women, where she faithfully served as both Vice President and President. In addition, Rita actively participated in numerous Bible studies and served her church in many capacities over the years.
